The Pact of Steel was an agreement between the governments of Italy and Germany, signed May 22, 1939 by Galeazzo Ciano Joachim von Ribbentrop . Was signed in the Reich Chancellery in Berlin in the presence of Hitler himself and General Staff Germanic.

His Majesty the King of Italy and Albania, Emperor of Ethiopia, and the Chancellor of the German Reich, consider the time to confirm a covenant with the close ties of friendship and of solidarity that exist between Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. Il popolo italiano ed il popolo tedesco, strettamente legati tra loro dalla profonda affinità delle loro concezioni di vita e dalla completa solidarietà dei loro interessi, sono decisi a procedere, anche in avvenire, l'uno a fianco dell'altro e con le forze unite per la sicurezza del loro spazio vitale e per il mantenimento della pace. Su questa via indicata dalla storia, l'Italia e la Germania intendono, in mezzo ad a troubled world and failing, to fulfill their task of securing the foundations of European civilization. In order to determine, by means of a pact, these principles have appointed as their plenipotentiaries:

who, having exchanged their full powers, found in good and due form, have agreed upon the following articles: Article I
. - The Contracting Parties shall keep in permanent contact in order to agree on all issues about their common interests or general European situation.
Article 2. - If the common interests of the Contracting Parties were to be endangered by international events of any kind, they will enter immediately into consultation on measures to be taken for the protection of these interests. If security or other vital interests of one of the Contracting Parties were to be threatened from outside, the other Contracting Party shall supply to the Party threatened its full political and diplomatic support to remove this threat.
Article 3. - If, despite the wishes and hopes of the Contracting Parties, which happens to be one of them was engaged in complicated conflict with another or with other Powers, the other Contracting Party shall forthwith as an ally at his side and support it with all its military forces, by land, sea and air.
Article 4. - In order to ensure the case referred to the rapid implementation of the obligations entered into alliance coll 'art. 3, members of the two Contracting Parties will deepen further their cooperation in military and in war economy. Similarly, the two Governments will be held in constant contact for the adoption of other measures necessary to the practical application of the provisions of this Covenant. The two Governments will provide, for the purposes indicated in the above paragraphs 1 and 2, standing committees that will be placed under the direction of the two foreign ministers.
Article 5. - The Contracting Parties undertake right now, in the case of a war waged together, not to conclude an armistice and peace treaties if not full agreement between them.
Article 6. - The two Contracting Parties, conscious of their common relations Powers hill their friends, are determined to maintain and develop jointly in future these reports, in harmony with the interests agreed that bind to these Powers.
Section 7. - This Covenant shall enter into force immediately upon signature. The two Contracting Parties agree to establish ten years in the first period of its validity. They make an agreement in good time before the end of this termine, circa il prolungamento della validità del Patto.
